– Today we pay tribute and express our remembrance of the soldiers who, while carrying out duties outside the country, made the ultimate sacrifice— their own lives, said the commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Col. Paweł Świtalski. Colonel Świtalski recalled the origins of the Day of Remembrance for those killed and deceased during military missions and operations outside the country, established by the Minister of National Defence in July this year. The date of observance of this military holiday refers to one of the most tragic events in the history of Polish participation in missions—the tragic attack on a Polish patrol in Afghanistan (December 21, 2011), during which five soldiers were killed by an improvised explosive device.

Next, the Regiment’s head of the educational section, Maj. Jerzy Juchaniuk, read the roll of remembrance, after which a ceremonial volley was fired to honor the victims of missions outside the country.

The special significance of Friday’s artillerymen’s roll call was underscored by the presentation of an appointment document promoting Major Piotr Kobyłecki to the rank of lieutenant colonel, following his appointment as commander of the 3rd Rocket Artillery Squadron. Lieutenant Colonel Kobyłecki—the former deputy commander of the 3rd Rocket Artillery Squadron—will replace Lieutenant Colonel Remigiusz Zieliński, who has been appointed deputy commandant of CSAiU in Toruń. Presenting the appointment document to the new commander of the WR-40 Langusta squadron, Colonel Świtalski emphasized his contribution and achievements in his service at the 3rd Rocket Artillery Squadron and wished him success in his new position.
