Legnica police officers responsible for combating property crime received a report concerning the theft of a Volkswagen Passat from the Kunice municipality. The day after the theft, officers searched premises located on a property in the area of Chojnów. There they found the stolen vehicle and a second car of the same make, which, as it turned out, had also been stolen—this time in November from Zgorzelec.
The property owner was arrested. Handling stolen goods carries a penalty of up to 5 years in prison.
In the course of further activities, officers identified and then arrested two perpetrators responsible for stealing the cars. They are residents of Chojnów, aged 21 and 33. The suspects were placed in police custody. One of them had previously been convicted of drug-related offences.
Officers also proved that the suspects had stolen a Seat Alhambra. Proceedings in this case are ongoing. The 21- and 33-year-olds face up to 10 years in prison.
