At the end of November, police officers from Zgorzelec carried out operations targeting people suspected of activities against the interests of the State Treasury. During the operation, they detained a woman suspected of possessing tobacco and cigarettes without Polish excise-duty stamps. The detainee is a 35-year-old resident of Zgorzelec.

The arrest took place while she was... selling cigarettes. Police established that, in a legally operating shop, the woman also sold illegal tobacco products. In a basement room rented specifically for this purpose, located next to the shop, she stored illegal cigarettes.

Police also searched the woman’s apartment and found more tobacco products without Polish excise-duty stamps—in total, they seized more than 7 kg of tobacco and nearly 87,000 cigarettes. The market value of the seized tobacco and cigarettes amounted to several tens of thousands of zlotys.

The 35-year-old faces up to 3 years in prison, as well as a substantial fine.
