Police officers from the Economic Crime Division of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters detained a 54-year-old resident of Podlaskie Voivodeship suspected of attempting to cash forged traveler’s checks.

The man was detained on November 16 this year, in the afternoon, at a banking institution where he tried to cash a traveler’s check worth 500 euros. During verification, it turned out that the payment instrument submitted was counterfeit.

In total, officers secured 14 checks that the 54-year-old wanted to cash. The man could have caused losses of approximately PLN 28,000. The detainee explained that he had received the checks by courier from an acquaintance in Ghana. He was supposed to transfer the money obtained by cashing them to her account.

Police officers are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case in detail. The 54-year-old could face up to 10 years in prison.
