In February 2015, a garage was broken into in one of the towns in Lubin Municipality. The burglar stole a Yamaha motorcycle worth PLN 5,000. The victim reported the crime, and Lubin police officers took up the case.

An officer from the criminal investigation division informed the victim that stolen property is sometimes recovered because thieves, wanting to get rid of their loot quickly, try to sell it, often online.

The victim and his wife monitored the local online sales market, and at one of the auctions they recognized part of the equipment from the stolen motorcycle—a set of leather saddlebags.

After receiving this information, officers from the Criminal Division went to Chojnów County—to the seller who was trying to sell the stolen saddlebags. As it turned out, the 38-year-old man was a fence. He said he had bought the motorcycle at the Lubin market in February.

The 38-year-old was charged with unintentional handling of stolen goods. Moreover, the police proved that he had forged the sales agreement and twice induced the certification of an untruth by deliberately misleading a public official during the vehicle registration procedure.

The motorcycle returned to its owner after 8 months. The 38-year-old faces up to 5 years in prison.
