Officers conducted operations in one of the towns in Legnica County. During a search of a garage and a passenger car, they found more than 65,000 cigarettes of various brands and over 40 kg of cut tobacco. None of the products bore Polish excise duty markings. The value of the illegal goods was estimated at nearly PLN 70,000.
A Ukrainian national was caught red-handed while packing and preparing the tobacco for transport.
The man was charged, among other things, with possessing and storing tobacco products without Polish excise duty markings. Cash amounting to PLN 10,000 was secured against potential future penalties.
The Ukrainian national could face up to three years in prison and a substantial fine.
