Police officers announce that another edition of the preventive program entitled “Safe in Her City”—a self-defense course for women—will begin on April 23, 2015. The program aims to improve women's safety in our city. The honorary patronage of the initiative will be assumed by the Mayor of Jelenia Góra Marcin Zawiła. Participants aged 16 must have written parental consent to take part in the course.
The main aim of the self-defense course is to prepare its participants mentally and physically to avoid—or, if necessary, repel—a direct attack on their life or health.
The classes are intended to improve the participants' overall physical fitness, teach simple and reliable hand-to-hand combat techniques, and increase legal awareness regarding the prevention of domestic violence and violence in interpersonal relationships.
The course will include self-defense classes led by a hand-to-hand combat instructor, lectures by a criminal prevention specialist, as well as talks and exercises with a psychologist. A prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra will also take part in the classes.
Practical classes will be held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the sports hall of the Inter-School Sports Center in Jelenia Góra. A total of 10 90-minute meetings are planned.
The organizers invite women interested in taking part in the course to an organizational meeting.
