Our Reader described to us the problem of an illegal dump near Dobra. Stefan Łucki from the Municipal Office replies that the waste will be cleared, and that last year the municipality purchased cameras and will monitor the most littered areas.
A reader's letter.
I would like to use your assistance to publicize the fact that waste is being dumped in the forest. Turning right off the main road from Bolesławiec to Dobra, at the “Dobra” sign and near the chicken houses, you will find a real dump. Along the entire length of this dirt road, and farther on after turning right, as well as going straight toward and then along the forest, waste, rubble and old equipment have been dumped.
They are not cleared by any services, and their amount grows from week to week. Even though the waste is already lying beside the main road, it seems to be invisible. Cars can often be seen standing on this road. Very young people come here at night because the neighboring fields offer a beautiful view of the city. They organize parties and light bonfires, creating a huge danger in the forest. After such parties, the forest and field are literally covered with bottles, cans, paper and other waste.
I would be grateful if, through your assistance, the appropriate services could be effectively encouraged to take an interest in this matter. Patrols by the municipal guards or forest service in this area, especially in the evenings, would certainly help greatly. The ultimate dream would be to install cameras or at least put up a sign prohibiting waste dumping.
Response from Stefan Łucki, deputy inspector for municipal waste management.
The waste shown in the photographs is located within the Bolesławiec Municipality, in a place away from buildings and the main road. Illegal dumps continue to appear in our area; we clear them and dispose of the collected waste at the Municipal Waste Disposal Plant in Trzebień. The dump in Dobra and the one in Bolesławice will also be cleared in the near future.
Taking care of the environment and the appearance and cleanliness of our area, we regularly clear illegal dumps as they appear. Last year, as part of such actions, we collected more than 100 m³ of waste. These are enormous quantities, and also a cost borne by the municipality.
We believe that the environmental awareness of our residents, both adults and the youngest, means that they not only decide to report such cases but, above all, do not participate in similar illegal activities. That is why we place such great emphasis on environmental education for everyone living in the Bolesławiec Municipality.
Waste is collected in the municipality regularly, according to an annual schedule. In addition, mobile collections are organized for bulky waste, used audio-visual and household appliances, and tires, meaning that waste from the municipality is collected on an ongoing basis. To combat this problem more effectively, as it intensifies particularly during the spring and summer, the Bolesławiec Municipal Office decided in 2014 to purchase cameras that continuously monitor the areas most often chosen by people littering our municipality.
Once again, we ask residents to inform Municipal Office employees about cases such as the one described above. Especially for you, we have launched a dedicated email address: czystagmina@gminaboleslawiec.pl. Illegal dumps can also be reported during the Office's working hours by telephone at 75 732 32 21, extension 120, or in person in room 4. Every such report is very valuable to us. At the same time, we believe that there will be fewer and fewer such incidents each year.
