At the beginning of April, a resident of Świętoszów reported to the Bolesławiec police. He said that a group of men had forced him to hand over his car, threatening to kill him and his family. In this way, the criminals extorted the handover of a Mercedes Vito worth PLN 28,000.
Police officers from Bolesławiec identified the members of the group and then arrested seven men in Żagań and Świętoszów. All those arrested were around 30 years old. They had all previously been known to the police and convicted. During the arrests and searches of the suspects’ homes, police found, among other things, a plasma television and a laptop, probably stolen, blank documents certifying employment at various companies, company stamps, a counterfeit 200-euro banknote and approximately 410 portions of marijuana.
The men were charged with crimes involving extortion, drug possession, document forgery, attempting to put counterfeit banknotes into circulation and bank loan fraud. They face between 5 and 25 years in prison.
