Police officers patrolling Legnica on the night of December 14–15 noticed two men carrying a large bag and a backpack. The officers decided to check their identities.
It turned out that one of the men had a metal crowbar, metal-cutting shears, a car video recorder and flashlights in his backpack, while the other was carrying two money pouches, a coin can, soft drinks, cosmetics and Christmas decorations in his bag.
One of the men was wearing work gloves during the police intervention. Both men claimed that they were carrying out construction work and needed the tools for that purpose. They then added that they had taken the items in the bag from an apartment they were renovating.
There were also business cards in the bag. The police called the telephone number shown on them. The man who answered said that he ran a business in one of the premises. When the officers went there, it turned out that the premises had been burgled.
The perpetrators cut through the padlocks securing the bars on the window and then pried them open. They stole exactly the items the officers found on them.
Both “construction workers” were detained. They were taken to police custody. They now face up to 10 years in prison.
