Police officers from the Traffic Department of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters detained a 36-year-old resident of Kamienna Góra County suspected of possessing tobacco without Polish excise-duty markings.

The arrest took place on December 4 at approximately 9:44 p.m. in Kowary. Officers stopped a Volkswagen Transporter for a roadside inspection. The driver turned out to be a 36-year-old resident of Kamienna Góra County. In the trunk of his vehicle, officers found bags containing 140 kg of cut tobacco without excise-duty markings. What is more, they also seized fine-cut tobacco and 20 packs of counterfeit cigarettes.

Authorities are estimating the losses the state treasury could have suffered if the illegal tobacco had reached the market. The man will face court proceedings for his actions.
