The incident took place on November 23, at around 2:30 p.m., in one of the grocery stores in the Staszica housing estate in Lubin. The 69-year-old Lubin resident entered the store and immediately went to the alcohol section. He hid a can of beer worth PLN 3 in the plastic bag he had with him.
As he was leaving the store, he took two empty wine bottles out of his bag. He wanted to buy the same wine. Since the store did not carry that wine, the man headed toward the exit. Then one of the shop assistants told him that he had not paid for the beer he had previously hidden in the plastic bag.
The 69-year-old then swung the bag and hit the woman in the head, breaking the glass bottles. The man tried to escape, but two store employees managed to detain him and then hand him over to the police.
The man now faces up to 10 years in prison.
