As the Onet.pl portal learned, investigators detained two more people allegedly connected with electoral bribery in Bogatynia. This brings the total to eight people. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that four of them have already been charged with electoral corruption. All of them are connected with the vote-buying scheme last Sunday, when police arrested the first two men.

Let us recall: on November 16, police in Bogatynia detained Piotr K., who was found in possession of “a list of voters from one of the polling districts in Bogatynia” and a sheet of paper with handwritten names and numbers.

It was established that Piotr K. received money—approximately PLN 2,050—from one of the candidates for the City Council. He was supposed to use it to buy voters’ support.

It was subsequently established that K. gave the money, among others, to Sandra A., Marian G., Henryk L., Barbara K. and others. These people were charged with accepting a financial benefit of between PLN 50 and PLN 100 in exchange for voting for a specified candidate for the Zgorzelec County Council and a specified candidate for the Bogatynia City Council.

The case is ongoing. Police officers are detaining more people involved in the scheme.
Based on the findings to date, approximately 20 people in total may be charged with electoral bribery, including candidates for the City Council and County Council who gave Piotr K. and other intermediaries funds for this purpose.

We will return to this case.
