On October 13, the hosts at the high school in Bogatynia, together with their colleagues from “Górnik,” prepared the setting for the popular Teachers’ Day. A large group of current and retired teachers, administrative and support staff, invited guests and students attended the ceremony.

There was no shortage of wishes, acknowledgements and awards presented by Deputy County Head Mariusz Tureńec. The artistic program presented by the young people was highly varied: those gathered heard Zbigniew Herbert’s poem “The Man of Nature,” a song performed by an interschool duo and a cabaret monologue; they could also admire the school’s variations on Mickiewicz’s “Forefathers’ Eve,” in which a truant and a school fashionista appeared as moralizing spirits.

On October 14, Zgorzelec schools jointly prepared National Education Day at “Emilka.” Here too, there was a strong turnout from the education community. The guests also included Senator Jan Michalski, Mayor Rafał Gronicz and Commune Head Kazimierz Janik. County Head Artur Bieliński, head of county education, presented the Zgorzelec County Head’s Awards to principals and teachers “for the effort, passion and enthusiasm invested in educating the young people of the county.” The stage featured attractive vocal and musical performances, dance routines, recitations and a cabaret sketch.

Undoubtedly, the sweetest surprise at both ceremonies was the fantastic cakes, funded by the Zgorzelec Guild of Crafts and Small Businesses, which cooperates with the county schools and is headed by Franciszek Wurszt.
