The programme of the third ceremonial concert, entitled Counterpoints/perspectives, organised on the 25th anniversary of the peaceful revolution in the GDR and the fall of the Berlin Wall, will feature works by composers from the two German states which, as a result of the aforementioned events, reunited after years of political division and today form the Federal Republic of Germany. From today’s perspective, the musical event will also provide an opportunity to reflect both on the fall of the Berlin Wall and on the reunification of Germany and Europe.

The concert will feature two world-premiere performances of works by German composers: Torsten Reitz and Christian Münch. Also performed will be “Concerto funèbre” by Carl Amadeus Hartmann, a highly regarded composer active in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1950s and 1960s.

As the concert is being held as part of Bach Week in Görlitz, alongside the new compositions the audience will also hear Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite in B minor, BWV 1067. Through this juxtaposition of two musical worlds—early and contemporary music—Sinfonietta Dresden will once again provide listeners with a unique delight for the ears.
