The establishment of the new programme at Karkonoska Państwowa Szkoła Wyższa in Jelenia Góra is driven by demand, both in the Nysa Euroregion and in Lower Silesia, for employees with higher education in this field.
“The health-resort character of the Jelenia Góra Valley, along with its numerous guesthouses, health resorts and hotels, creates demand among tourists and spa guests for this type of service. This provides very good working conditions for dietitians, whose expertise will contribute to the development and promotion of the region,” says Prof. Henryk Gradkowski, PhD, Rector of KPSW.
The general aim of education in dietetics is to prepare competent professionals who share responsibility for the proper and dietary nutrition of healthy and ill people, as well as for human health at various stages of development.
Graduates are professionally prepared to practise as dietitians independently. After completing their studies, they can work in public and non-public healthcare institutions, collective catering establishments, sports facilities, hotels and health resorts.
Some of the subjects taught during the studies include anatomy, food biochemistry, genetics, food microbiology, human physiology, human nutrition, pharmacology, health promotion, nutrition education, food technology, food quality analysis and assessment, and food hygiene and safety.
During their studies, students complete a mandatory internship totalling 16 weeks, or 640 hours, in various types of institutions, including social care homes, hospitals and preschools.
KPSW is a university with many years of experience in conducting medical, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences programmes.
