Police officers from the Jelenia Góra traffic unit detained, after a pursuit, a 27-year-old resident of Lwówek County suspected of causing an accident while intoxicated and fleeing the scene.
The incident took place on August 18, before 9:00 p.m. The police duty officer received information that the driver of an Opel Vectra had hit two people on the pavement on Słowackiego Street and fled the scene of the accident. The injured parties were a 58-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man. Both suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
Officers found the perpetrator’s vehicle on Morcinka Street. They also detained the driver there. It turned out that he did not have a driving licence, and the car had neither a valid technical inspection nor insurance. Moreover, he was drunk, with nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.
The 27-year-old was taken into police custody. He now faces up to 4.5 years in prison, a substantial fine and a driving ban lasting several years.
