Running with Europe

To mark the tenth anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union and to commemorate Jerzy Szmajdziński, the annual street races will be held in Bolesławiec on 1 May. These races promote and popularize running as a form of physical activity.

The “Lower Silesian European Runs named after Jerzy Szmajdziński – Bolesławiec 2014” are open to all and are addressed to everyone who enjoys fair-play competition.

Information for participants:

  • date and location of the competition: 1 May 2014 in Bolesławiec
  • registration: competition office at the “Orka” swimming pool (Asnyka Street)
  • competition times: registration from 10:00, start from 11:00.

Participants should have a valid identity document; minors must have written consent from their parents.

Sports categories by participant gender/distance:

  • primary school – 1,400 metres
  • middle schools – 1,400 metres
  • seniors over 35 – 2,800 metres
  • open category – over a distance of 2,800 metres.

Attractive prizes, trophies and cash awards for first, second and third place in the open category are planned for winners and participants. Prize sponsors include:

Flag Day and 3 May in Bolesławiec

The organizers inviting residents to the May celebrations are: the Municipality of Bolesławiec, the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre, the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the Youth City Council.

On Friday, 2 May, at noon sharp, a flag-raising ceremony will take place in the Market Square, accompanied by the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment.

On Saturday, 3 May, at 11:30 a solemn Mass for the Homeland will be held at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Zamkowy Square, with the participation of the Honour Guard Company of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment and the “Bolesławiec” Municipal Brass Band.

In the afternoon, at 14:00 the “May Day with Folklore” concert will take place at the Forum cinema. In the first part, children from the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble will perform. They will dance national dances—kujawiak, polonaise and mazur—and sing folk songs. The Gminny Song and Dance Ensemble “Jutrzenka” will perform next. Admission is free.

Euroregional May Day Weekend

The Municipality of Bolesławiec and the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre in Bolesławiec invite residents to the Euroregional May Day Weekend, a sports and recreation festival taking place on 3–4 May at the Water Sports Centre on Spacerowa Street. The programme is as follows:

    • 10:00 – tennis tournament – singles
    • 11:00 – rugby tournament
    • 12:00 – boules tournament
    • 14:00 – extreme adventure trail
    • 15:00 – bench-press competition

    • 10:00 – recreational bicycle ride from Bolesławiec to Kliczków (meeting point at the Galeria Wedding and Banquet Centre, II Armii Wojska Polskiego Street)

    • 11:00 – paintball treasure hunt
    • 11:00 – remote-controlled model show
    • 12:00 – Show Off Your Pet – domestic animal show
    • 13:00 – exhibition dressage competition
    • 14:00 – exhibition show-jumping competition
    • 15:00 – family barbecue with Radek Hugeth.

The event is held under the honorary patronage of Mayor Piotr Roman. The project entitled Euroregional May Day Weekend – a sports and recreation festival is co-organized with funding from the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund and from the state budget, with the support of the Nysa Euroregion.

Family Festival in Trzebień

The Rural Housewives’ Circle in Trzebień, the Village Council and the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn, invite residents to a Family Festival, which will take place on 3 May in the square next to the volunteer fire station in Trzebień.

The programme includes performances by singers and bands (patriotic songs will alternate with folk songs and rock and pop hits), competitions with prizes and a dance party. It starts at 15:00.

Firefighters’ Day

The Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service invites residents to Firefighters’ Day celebrations, which will take place on 4 May (Sunday). The programme is as follows:

  • 9:00 – ceremonial roll call at the premises of the Bolesławiec County State Fire Service Headquarters (2 Wesoła Street)
  • 10:30 – march/procession to the Bolesławiec Basilica of the Virgin Mary
  • 11:00 – solemn Mass for firefighters (Bolesławiec Basilica of the Virgin Mary)
  • 12:00 – group photograph
  • 12:15 – fire engine display (Market Square).
