The premiere of “The Miser,” performed by students of the Janusz Korczak II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec, took place on April 4 at the Old Theatre. The venue was packed. Among the audience were, among others, Mr and Mrs Katarzyna and Dariusz Kwaśniewscy, the long-serving head of II LO Edmund Maliński, Parents’ Council chair Kazimiera Kotwica, the current head of the school Mirosław Sakowski, as well as the students’ parents, teachers—former and current—staff, alumni and students of the “second school.”

Anyone who, for whatever reason, was unable to attend the premiere of one of the most famous comedies of all time has something to regret. In an excellent set design—with the furniture borrowed from Piwnica Paryska—the drama club from II LO presented a superb adaptation of Molière’s timeless work. For more than an hour, the students transported the audience to 17th-century Paris.

Harpagon drew the most attention—Piotr Rola gave an outstanding performance in the role—but in reality, many acting talents shone on stage that day. Much of the credit goes to Izabella Daniel, the drama club’s supervisor, French teacher and director of the performance. The audience gave the creators of the production a standing ovation.
