A Reader asked us to publicize the case. In an email to the editorial office, they wrote: “Over the past week, vandals have cut down 23 trees on a plot of land in Nowa Wieś [gmina Bolesławiec – przyp. ii]. The tracks show that the felling took place recently. Birch and alder trees (15–20 years old) were stolen.” They added: “The vandals will probably not stop their activities and will return to the same or another location. This is not the first case of illegal tree felling in the area.”

Indeed, as Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec police, informed us, similar incidents took place this year in Nowa Kuźnia (Gromadka municipality) and Stara Oleszna (Bolesławiec municipality). The thieves face up to 5 years in prison.
