The location of our county along transport routes, together with the concentration of workplaces in special economic zones, has led to a significant increase in road transport—mostly involving heavy goods vehicles. Company parking areas located in the economic zones are often filled with lorries and TIRs, whose drivers spend the night waiting to load or unload goods. They then frequently take breaks in unsecured motorway parking areas.
High fuel prices have led to an increase in fuel thefts. As part of the “Safe TIR” preventive operation, police officers from the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters inspect parking areas, speak with drivers and hand out leaflets—in five language versions—with advice.
Advice for drivers:
- refuel your vehicle immediately before setting out on the road, after stopping
- when refuelling, do not provide information about your route or stopping places
- choose guarded, well-lit, checked and similar locations for parking your vehicle
- stay alert during breaks and inform the police of any threats
- pay particular attention to strangers showing interest in your lorries and their cargo.
