The opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m. at II Liceum Ogólnokształcące on Dolne Młyny Street. Bożena Gałan and Mirek Putyra are photography enthusiasts. The exhibition “In the Afterimage of Dreams” is their joint idea. They inspire each other and have very similar, and often crazy, ideas for photographic subjects.

“We often laugh that we are clones,” says Bożena Gałan. “We have similar ideas and ways of presenting the world. We are alike and, at the same time, very different. Mirek is a professional, an excellent technician who knows the art of photography. I am an amateur and a poor technician, but a good organizer and marketer. That is very important in cooperation. Also in this project,” adds the photographer.

This is not the first exhibition by this pair. The photographers have exhibited at the Artystyczna Galeria Izerska. The subject matter of the works was different. The exhibition “In the Afterimage of Dreams” is devoted to women and their dreams of being exceptional, different and fleeting.

“Which woman does not dream of finding herself for a moment in another time, in a beautiful dress like a princess from an Andersen fairy tale?” Gałan says about the joint project. “And what if we reversed the situation and transported the princesses into modern times? Is that possible? In imagination and photography, yes. Perhaps both worlds can exist simultaneously? Realism and abstraction?” asks the project’s co-author.

The modern woman, professionally successful yet burdened with household responsibilities and living in constant haste, finds time for a little madness in the photographs. She runs through green fields in a flowing, ruffled dress, while the wind brushes her face and caresses her cheeks with the chiffon ribbon from a cornflower-blue hat.

“Can a woman look at herself this way? What is reality, and what is merely a visual impression called an ‘afterimage’?” wonders the photographer as she invites viewers to the exhibition.

The exhibition is supported by the Boleslawiec City Center gallery. Grażyna Hanaf’s book “Joachim” was used in the project as one of the props, for which the novel’s author warmly thanks Mirosław Putyra and Bożena Gałan.
