During the competition inaugurating the school sports year, held on September 26 in Wrocław, the boys’ team from Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 im. Polaków Zesłanych na Sybir in Bolesławiec won the Lower Silesian vice-championship in the athletics league, losing only to the team from Polkowice.
Individually, the GS No. 2 students won three medals. Mateusz Tofil won the 110-metre hurdles (with a time of 16.10 s), and Maciej Wilk won the shot put (10.37 m). Dominik Stec won the silver medal in the javelin throw (48.69 m).
In total, the athletes from “No. 2” scored 1,460 points. The boys competed in the following lineup: Karol Łużny, Mateusz Kwieciński, Tobiasz Burzyński, Krystian Karaban, Piotr and Paweł Gadzińscy, Kacper Popławski, Damian Biernacki, Piotr Filistyński, Jakub Karaban, Szymon Laudański and Joel Kusiciel. The team’s coach is Tomasz Markowski.
It is worth adding that over the past eight years, the boys’ and girls’ teams from Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 in Bolesławiec have reached the podium at the Lower Silesian Championships 30 times in athletics events: in the athletics league, the J. Humbert Athletics Cup, the individual athletics championships and cross-country running.
