The Polish U18 Athletics Championships are now behind us. In each event, athletes ranked among the top twenty in the country were eligible to compete. Nine athletes represented MKS Bolesłavia. One highlight was the raising of the Olympic flag by Bolesłavianka Ewa Ochocka, a participant in the World Championships in Donetsk (Ukraine).
The Bolesławiec throwers performed very well. In the hammer throw, Dawid Kopała won the Polish vice-championship, throwing 60 m and 78 cm. Just outside the medals, Kacper Olszewski finished fourth in the shot put, setting a personal best and a club record and achieving the first sports class with a result of 17.84 m.
In the 10,000 m race walk, Grzegorz Oślak finished seventh with a time of 52:59.28. In the 2,000 m steeplechase, Wojciech Karaban finished eighth with a new personal best of 6:18.36.
Ewa Ochocka had particularly bad luck. In the qualifying race for the 400 m hurdles, she won her heat and advanced to the final with the fastest time. Unfortunately, she then suffered an injury. Ultimately, she was withdrawn from the race and classified in eighth place.
Monika Sandak finished 13th in the javelin throw (38.53 m) and 14th in the discus throw (30.65 m). Kacper Olszewski finished 14th in his second event, the discus throw (41.94 m). In the triple jump, Paweł Jóźwiak finished 15th with a result of 12.87 m.
In the 100 metres, Monika Chmielik competed, and her time of 12.82 seconds earned her 17th place in the country. One place lower was Michał Bis, who competed in the javelin throw (38.19 m).
In the team standings, MKS Bolesłavia, with 44 points, finished first among Lower Silesian clubs and eighth in Poland out of 226 clubs. It was one of the best performances in Bolesłavia’s history in this age category, both in terms of the number of qualified athletes and the points earned.
The coaches who prepared the athletes for the championship finals were Małgorzata Markowska, Tomasz Markowski, Ryszard Posacki and Dariusz Marek. Congratulations to the athletes and their coaches.
