An inscription reading "The ethos of a city should be based above all on solidarity – John Paul II" was carved into a plaque set into the western wall of the Town Hall. The plaque was unveiled on 31 August to commemorate Karol Wojtyła’s stay in Bolesławiec.

Ten years after receiving his priestly ordination, priest Karol Wojtyła stayed in our town. This was on 1 September 1956. The future pope celebrated Mass at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, now a sanctuary.
