We have already reported on plans to expand municipal surveillance in Bolesławiec. In August, information emerged about a project involving the installation of at least 500 cameras and the use of artificial intelligence to detect specific events.
During the September session of the City Council, Mayor Piotr Roman provided new information about the project. He said that the concept for a city management system based on visual information had already been prepared.
Application for financing submitted to BGK
The mayor said that the application for financing had already been submitted to Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.
It was previously reported that the planned system would include at least 500 cameras, while the investment would also require the expansion of technical infrastructure, including fibre-optic networks, masts and a management centre.
Bolesławiec cooperates with South Korea
He added:
We are also cooperating with the Korean side, which wants to help us to some extent with using artificial intelligence in controlling the system and relieving video-surveillance operators of some duties, namely responding to specific situations.
He also noted:
Such things are already being used in Asian countries.
City hopes for South Korean grant
It is possible that cooperation with South Korea may also have a financial dimension. Piotr Roman said: “We also have a chance to obtain a grant from the South Korean government.”
Bolesławiec’s digital twin
One of the more interesting elements connected with the planned surveillance system is the so-called digital twin of the city. This is a digital representation of real space and its elements, which can be used, among other things, for data analysis, planning and management.
The surveillance system is to be part of a larger system
Earlier information about the investment indicated that the system would be used, among other things, to detect potentially dangerous events such as fights, falls or the appearance of smoke. Surveillance of the Bóbr River and observation of the city from its highest points were also planned.
We will return to this subject.
