Kuba Badach arrived in Bolesławiec for a Valentine’s concert with his band. The musicians performed the concert “Tribute to Andrzej Zaucha”. Jacek Piskorz played the electric piano, Jacek Piskorz, Marcin Górny played the keyboards and iPhone, Marcin Górny, Przemysław Maciołek played the electric guitar, Przemysław Maciołek, Robert Luty played percussion instruments and the cajón (a wooden percussion instrument originating in Africa), Robert Luty, Paweł Puszczało played the double bass and bass guitar, Paweł Puszczało, and Grzech Piotrowski played the saxophones, Grzech Piotrowski.
Kuba Badach, who at the age of thirteen sang in the backing choir during the recording of one of Andrzej Zaucha’s albums (an unreleased record featuring sung fairy tales), became so fascinated by the artist that when Zaucha’s songs disappeared from radio playlists, he decided to remind a wide audience about them. Together with his musician friends who were present at the concert, he recorded an album featuring Zaucha’s best-known songs in new, sometimes surprising arrangements.
The audience that came to the concert enjoyed the Valentine’s evening together with the band, travelling through Andrzej Zaucha’s songs about love and other subjects. Badach opened the concert with “Bądź moim natchnieniem”. In a Latin arrangement, he performed “Bezsennność we dwoje”; he sang “Dzień dobry Mr. Blues” in a blues rhythm and presented the beautiful song about old people, “Zakochani staruszkowie”, in a rock arrangement.
When the artist presented one of Zaucha’s best-known songs, “Byłaś serca biciem”, he asked the audience, without revealing the song’s title, whether they knew which of Andrzej’s songs appears on the “Polish Top of All Time”. The audience teased the singer. Someone in the hall jokingly shouted “Sto lat”, while someone else amused the artist by shouting “Ona tańczy dla mnie” (a disco polo song by the band Weekend).
“The song I am going to perform will not be ‘Ona tańczy dla mnie’,” Badach joked. “It will be the song that inspired the creator of ‘Ona tańczy dla mnie’.”
A good mood, excellent rapport with the audience, and joy and precision are the best descriptions of the Valentine’s evening spent with Kuba Badach and his band.
Let us recall that Andrzej Zaucha died tragically in 1991. The artist was fatally shot together with actress Zuzanna Leśniak by her husband, French director Yves'a Goulais. Jealousy over his wife was the motive for the murder. The killer fired nine shots from a pistol. Zaucha died at the scene, while Zuzanna Leśniak died in the ambulance.
