The First Concert of Its Kind in the City. Bolesławiec Musicians Performed at Mirek Kuc’s 50th Anniversary

On Friday evening, the Old Theatre in Bolesławiec was filled to capacity as people celebrated Mirek Kuc’s 50 years of artistic work. The Bolesławiec resident, who can once again perform concerts after overcoming a serious cancer illness, enjoyed doing what he loves—making music among friends.

During the concert, viewers not only listened to good music but also learned about Mirek’s musical history. In 1976, he made his debut in Bolesławiec on the stage of the band shell in Bonin Park (then Waryński Park). The musician’s story began with playing in the Wrocław-based Funk Factory, founded in Wrocław in 1981 by Tadeusz Nestorowicz. It then took him through many years of emigration in Italy before bringing him back to Bolesławiec, where he lectured at the “Blues nad Bobrem” guitar workshops in 2011–13.

At the end of the 1980s, many artists were looking for new opportunities to develop outside their home countries. In Italy, the artist did not find his place in the music industry quickly, before eventually becoming a session musician on Italian television.

“At the very beginning, I slept in the bushes in a tent,” the musician said during the concert. “For a year, I worked in construction,” he recalled about his life as an immigrant in Italy.

Once he began performing, he started working with prominent figures. He also performed at the prestigious Sanremo Festival. There, alongside Orlando Andreucci, the artist had the opportunity to present his talent to a wider audience. Their collaboration resulted in the recording of a joint album titled “Fuori Orario,” which stands as a testament to his artistic achievements. Although emigration was often difficult, in this case it proved fruitful. As the musician himself said, however, he was most interested in playing in small venues and small groups of musicians.

The concert program featured standards bordering on jazz, blues and bossa nova, as well as compositions by Mirek Kuc.

The concert was conceived by Dariusz Uściński (director of MDK) and Aleksandra Sozańska-Kut. The following artists performed on stage and helped produce the concert:
