At Wednesday’s City Council session, the mayor informed councillors about the results of an inspection conducted after an open letter was received from Maciej Małkowski. The former deputy mayor criticised the excessive number of children in classes at municipal schools.
“I took Maciej Małkowski’s letter very seriously,” said Piotr Roman. “I commissioned a comparative analysis to check whether the former deputy mayor’s allegations were confirmed. And I am deeply saddened by the matter that emerged during the inspection,” the mayor said.
The current deputy mayor, Kornel Filipowicz, informed councillors that in 2008 Maciej Małkowski reduced the size of the first-year classes at Primary School No. 4. He created four classes there, each with 23 pupils. That same year, his daughter began attending one of the classes he had created. The following year, class sizes were increased again and the number of classes was reduced.
“To this day, I still cannot get over the fact that someone could do something like this,” Piotr Roman said. “I did not know that it was possible to single out one school in this way. The fact only came to light as a result of letters we received from Maciej Małkowski,” the mayor commented.
Piotr Roman added that the additional class cost the city nearly half a million złotys over three years.
We wanted to ask Maciej Małkowski for comment, but he did not answer our call. Later, he explained that he had no signal. Here is Maciej Małkowski’s statement:
This brazen, disgusting lie and slander has nothing to do with the truth. Unfortunately, I was not listening to the online session during this part of the proceedings, so I cannot respond to the individual statements on this subject. I therefore await the official minutes of the City Council session and will decide on further steps. The witnesses in this matter are the then head of education, the deputy head and the management of Primary School No. 4. You got carried away, Mr Mayor.
