The issue of the citizens’ bill “Stop Banderyzm” was raised during the August session of the Bolesławiec City Council. During his report on activities undertaken between sessions, Mayor Piotr Roman referred to the nationwide campaign to collect signatures for the bill.

As the city’s mayor emphasized, the initiative is being carried out in cooperation with various organizations, including the Bolesławiec branch of Solidarność:

For some time now, we have been carrying this out together with various organizations – many thanks to Bolesławiec Solidarność. This is a nationwide campaign to collect signatures for the bill “Stop Banderyzm”.

The mayor also stressed that the campaign is not directed against Ukrainian citizens:

And this is not about, as some people think, stirring up anti-Ukrainian sentiment. Quite the contrary. Banderyzm in Poland is something that should be banned by law and combated, just like activities promoting fascism or communism.

The head of the Bolesławiec municipal office added that signatures are being collected in various locations, and that some current and former councillors have also become involved in the effort. He also encouraged interested people to join the campaign:

If any of you would still like to join this campaign, I refer you to the relevant websites. The “Stop Banderyzm” page is also on Facebook.

He added that people could also contact him about the matter (“I have materials available”). He also noted that a significant number of signatures had recently been collected during pilgrimages to Jasna Góra.

The “Stop Banderyzm” campaign is a citizens’ legislative initiative. For the bill to be referred for further legislative work, its organizers must collect the required 100,000 signatures.
