The school-year closing ceremony at the School Complex of Mechanical Engineering in Bolesławiec took place on Friday, June 29. Among those attending the ceremony were deputy county head Stanisław Chwojnicki, president of the District Branch Board of the Volunteer Fire Brigades Association of the Republic of Poland Zbigniew Bożęcki, former deputy county fire service commander Jerzy Kieler, and councillors of the Bolesławiec County Council: Jan Russ and Waldemar Krysztofiak.

The director of the “mechanical school,” Adam Maksymczyk, spoke. “I have just received information that the high school graduates from our county performed brilliantly in their final exams; in this respect, Bolesławiec County came first in Lower Silesia,” he said. “I thank the teaching staff. I also thank the students. Many of you represented our school in various competitions, and many achieved excellent results in their studies, olympiads and tournaments.”

Deputy county head Stanisław Chwojnicki congratulated the ZSM students on their achievements. He stressed that these excellent results were also due to their teachers and parents. He also recalled that the Vocational Education Centre would soon operate at the “mechanical school” (we reported on this in the article “ZSM: renovation of the school workshops is underway”).

During the ceremony, awards were presented for academic performance, active participation in the life of the School Complex of Mechanical Engineering and sporting achievements. Among those honoured for academic performance was Grzegorz Słota from class III of the Mechatronics Technical School, who achieved the highest average grade in the entire school. “He is a very intelligent and very well-mannered young man,” says Jan Russ, a ZSM teacher and tutor of class III TM. “He is extremely hardworking, but by no means a swot.”

The ceremony was also an opportunity to say farewell to teachers retiring: Janina Świerzewska, Grzegorz Kiliszek and Alojzy Skóra.

“We are pleased with our students’ results,” says Barbara Berduła, deputy director of the institution. “The young people took part in many olympiads. ZSM students participated in the regional stages of the electronics and physics olympiads. We are a technical school, and this is the direction in which we primarily develop young people. This does not mean that we have no achievements in other fields, such as sport.”
