The Childbirth School is located at the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej in Bolesławiec, at 4 Jeleniogórska Street. Classes are held every Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. They cover, among other topics, preparations for childbirth, methods of easing labour pain, breastfeeding and newborn care. A visit to the maternity ward and an introduction to the staff are also planned. The classes are conducted by qualified midwives. The first class was held on 6 June. Its subject was bathing and changing a baby. Further information can be obtained by calling: 75 738 00 80 (gynaecology ward) or 75 738 00 83 (maternity ward).

Those present at the school’s ceremonial opening on 2 June included: Bolesławiec County Head Cezary Przybylski, Deputy County Head Stanisław Chwojnicki, and Deputy Chairwoman of the City Council Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk. The Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office in Wrocław was represented by Iwona Stasiak and Mirosława Ryba-Romanowska. Representatives of the Rosa Foundation were also present: its president, Bohdan Pecuszok, and Sonia Małańczak, the Rosa Foundation’s programme specialist. During the ceremony, midwives Renata Ziemba-Gruchaj and Małgorzata Karasiewicz presented the history and objectives of the Childbirth School. They also discussed the undeniable benefits for expectant mothers and newborn children resulting from participation in the classes. They also spoke about ways of reducing fear and labour pain.

The multimedia lecture “It Takes a Whole Village to Raise a Child” attracted considerable interest. Grażyna Hanaf from the “Istotne Informacje” Portal and Newspaper spoke about the situation of families and children in exotic Morocco.

The Childbirth School was established thanks to support from the Rosa Foundation of Wrocław. With its help, the rooms intended for the school were renovated, new flooring was installed, the walls were painted, and new lighting was fitted. Necessary equipment was also purchased: bean bags, footrests, exercise mats, newborn mannequins, a multimedia projector and a CD player.

You are also invited to an exhibition in the lobby of the county office building. Photographs from the hospital chronicle can be viewed there. The exhibition is entitled “Captured in a Frame”.
