The School Complex of Mechanical Engineering in Bolesławiec obtains funding from European Union funds to develop its educational facilities. Two completed projects enabled the mechatronics laboratories to be equipped with teaching equipment worth more than 80 thousand euros. The school is also involved in the project to build the Network of Vocational Education Centres in Lower Silesia, which involves obtaining teaching equipment worth nearly PLN 4 million! All this means that the “mechanic” is strengthening its position as one of the leading centres for training specialists in the mechatronics, electronics and automotive industries in the region.
ZSM prepares its students well for life in the global information society and for using information technology in learning and problem-solving. Workshops operate at the school, enabling a complete cycle of practical training for students of all fields. Modern school workshops for the automotive, mechatronics and mechanical industries are currently being built.
On 20 April 2012, an agreement on cooperation between the Faculty of Mechanical and Energy Engineering of Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the School Complex of Mechanical Engineering was signed at the Old Theatre in Bolesławiec. The purpose of the agreement is to ensure the highest possible standard of teaching for students. ZSM students attend laboratory classes at PWr, while students of Wrocław University of Science and Technology will practise on modern mechatronics equipment at the Bolesławiec “mechanic” school as early as May that year.
The classes for locksmiths and machine-tool operators are under the patronage of Kopex-Famago Sp. z o.o. from Zgorzelec. Students in these fields are guaranteed scholarships funded by the company, while graduates are guaranteed employment at Famago.
The school offers opportunities to deepen vocational knowledge and develop sporting and artistic interests. During their studies, the classes for automotive mechanics and automotive electromechanics take a free driving course!!!
Every year, the “mechanic” organises a number of initiatives aimed at helping graduates find employment after completing school. In the 2011/2012 school year, thanks to the activities of teachers implementing the project Modernisation of Vocational Education in Lower Silesia – ZSM students took part in courses leading to new qualifications. Forty-five people completed a MAG welding course, 77 obtained forklift operator qualifications including handling gas cylinders, 30 students obtained SEP electrical qualifications up to 1 kV, and 47 students took part in a category T course.
ZSM has a well-equipped library with more than 12 thousand volumes, as well as a multimedia centre with computer workstations. The Reading and Media Club, the Polish Red Cross club, the karting club and the “Mechanicus” artistic ensemble also operate here. Students take part in vocational competitions, including the Nationwide Automotive Knowledge Tournament; they also participate in vocational study trips, including the “Motor Show” Automotive Fair, the “Green Power” Renewable Energy Fair and the Mechanical Technology Innovation Fair in Poznań.
The result of the wide range of educational and developmental activities is success not only in vocational tournaments and sporting competitions, but also in physics and mathematics contests. “Mechanic” students actively participate in voluntary blood-donation campaigns and charitable initiatives such as the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, Góra Grosza and the Christmas Eve Gathering for People with Disabilities.
Both the friendly, experienced and highly qualified teaching staff and the extensive educational facilities guarantee a high standard of education. The school offers a range of extracurricular activities that make it easier to deepen one’s knowledge. For those wishing to prepare for the matura examination and then continue their education at higher-education institutions, ZSM guarantees a sound general education. At the same time, the school provides solid vocational preparation, enabling its graduates to find their place both in the domestic and European labour markets.
