We were asked to publicize the issue by our Reader, a resident of Raciborowice Górne (Warta Bolesławiecka municipality). For several months, dogs have been running into the street and blocking the way of village residents. “I spoke to the owners of these animals. Without success,” the man says. “I then reported it to the municipal office. Mr Michał Bojanowski told me that he had sent letters to people who do not keep an eye on their dogs, but that he could do nothing more. If they were stray dogs, the office would deal with them, but these animals have owners.

“Proper supervision of an animal is the owner’s responsibility,” Bojanowski explains. “There is little that can be done administratively in this matter. The mayor can only raise awareness, inform and admonish the municipality’s residents.

“I have a dog myself,” the Reader points out. “The difference is that I keep an eye on it, because I would not want anything to happen to someone because of it. I do not understand owners who let their pets roam freely. My child rides a bicycle to school. I would not want a tragedy to occur because of someone’s carelessness.

The police became involved in the matter. Last week, the dogs’ owners received four fines and two warnings. We will return to the subject.
