Four similar burglaries took place at the turn of January and February (including on Bielska Street). Each time, the modus operandi was similar. The crimes occurred during the late morning hours. The burglars broke into apartments in high-rise buildings, where there is greater anonymity and where people sometimes pay no attention to strangers loitering in the stairwell. This is a mistake. According to Adriana Szajwaj, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec police, such incidents should be reported to the authorities.
Furthermore, to prevent such incidents, officers have been carrying out the “Watchful Neighbour” programme since last autumn. Its aim is to reduce the number of thefts and burglaries. As part of the programme, slogans intended to make city residents aware that cooperation with the police can improve our safety are displayed on Bolesławiec’s electronic billboards. Leaflets warning against criminals were delivered to mailboxes and put up in stairwells.
The burglars mainly stole money and jewellery. Measures are under way to establish the perpetrators’ identities and arrest them. They face up to 10 years in prison.
