We wrote about the matter at the beginning of February this year. During a City Council session, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman informed the councillors that he had received information from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra that the director of the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways had asked the head of GDDKiA to include in the 2011–2015 Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads a project called “Reconstruction of the transport system along national road no. 94, including reconstruction of the bridge over the Bóbr River in Bolesławiec”.
“The reconstruction of this bridge is very important. Once tolls are introduced on the motorway, no sensible person will pay PLN 10 to get to Zgorzelec or PLN 20 to reach Wrocław,” Roman argued. “This means that at least 50% of the cars that currently use the motorway will join the 8,000 vehicles that cross our bridge every day. And we will have a situation similar to the one that occurred in 2005.” [wtedy średni dobowy ruch na tym moście wynosił ponad 14,5 tys. pojazdów – przyp. red.]
When will reconstruction of the Bolesławiec bridge begin? “The project can be added to the plan when the plan is updated. The decision to update the plan and add this project is made by the Ministry of Transport,” says Joanna Borkowska, a spokesperson for GDDKiA’s Wrocław branch. “In addition, we submitted an application to GDDKiA headquarters to include this project in the action plan for the national road network. In the application, we assumed that work on preparing the documentation, if funding were secured, could take place in 2012–2013, while implementation of the project would take place in 2014–2015.
“For many years, GDDKiA’s Wrocław branch has reported the need to construct the structure and reconstruct the surrounding transport system, and has sought funding to prepare the documentation and carry out the work,” Borkowska stresses. “Since taking over the structure, that is, since 2001, GDDKiA’s Wrocław branch has carried out renovation work worth nearly PLN 4 million. However, we realise that the repairs carried out have not solved the problem and that the structure’s poor condition requires a thorough reconstruction. At the same time, we hope that the declaration made by Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman on 14 November 2011, concerning co-financing the construction design for a second bridge carriageway at 50% of the cost, will bring us closer to implementing this project.
The estimated cost of the “Reconstruction of the transport system along national road no. 94, including reconstruction of the bridge over the Bóbr River in Bolesławiec” is approximately PLN 61 million.
