Due to irregularities reported in the media concerning the spending by the Bolesławiec County Office of funds allocated for maintaining provincial roads in 2010–2011, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra asked the Board of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship to conduct an audit into the matter.

“The materials we have obtained so far indicate that local government authorities from Bolesławiec County were already questioning the proper use of these funds in spring 2010. They also pointed out that the tasks taken over by Bolesławiec County from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship concerning summer and winter maintenance of provincial roads were not being carried out properly,” explains Marcin Zarówny, deputy head of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. “In particular, local government officials pointed to the lack of repairs to damaged road surfaces or to repairs being carried out improperly.”

“The prosecutor’s office is not conducting preparatory proceedings in this matter,” emphasizes the deputy district prosecutor. “Nevertheless, exercising our statutory powers, we are taking steps aimed at safeguarding the rule of law.”

We were unable to contact Bolesławiec deputy county head responsible for roads, Stanisław Chwojnicki.
