This could be one of the most important organizational changes in healthcare in this part of Lower Silesia. On Monday, September 7, the Bogatynia Municipal Council decided to approve the merger of the Independent Public Healthcare Centre in Bogatynia with the “Bolesławiec – Zgorzelec” Multispecialist Healthcare Centre.
The resolution was supported by 17 councillors; two voted against it. No one abstained. Two councillors were absent, reports bogatynia.info.pl
Bogatynia in one structure with Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec
If the remaining formalities are completed as planned, the Bogatynia hospital will be incorporated into the entity previously created through the merger of facilities in Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec.
This will create an even larger medical structure covering three cities in the region.
Importantly, the planned merger is not intended to mean the closure of the hospital in Bogatynia. Under the current plans, its existing locations and departments are to be retained. The change is primarily intended to concern the organizational structure and the management of the facilities.
Doctors, money and the future of the hospital
The decision was made as the Bogatynia SP ZOZ has been struggling with financial and staffing problems for some time. The idea of incorporating the facility into a larger entity has been under consideration since 2025.
Supporters of consolidation point, among other things, to the possibility of better coordination of services, the use of shared resources, cost optimization and greater financial stability.
A similar model was previously used for the merger of hospitals in Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec. It was one of the first initiatives of this kind in Poland following legal changes that made it possible to merge public healthcare entities.
This is not the end yet
Monday’s decision by the councillors does not yet mean that the merger has been finally completed. The entities involved still face further formalities, including arrangements between the founding bodies and registration of the required changes.
If the procedure is completed successfully, Bogatynia will become another element of the growing hospital structure encompassing Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec.
For patients, however, what will matter most is not the organizational merger itself, but whether it will lead to better access to doctors and services and greater stability in the operation of the Bogatynia hospital.
