Mushroom hunters report finding king boletes, which can be encountered at various stages of development—from small specimens that have only just begun to emerge to larger mushrooms. The forest finds also include pine boletes, commonly known as shaggy manes.
But that is not all. Butter boletes, birch boletes, bay boletes, parasol mushrooms and chanterelles are also appearing in the forests. Everything indicates, therefore, that the mushroom season is beginning to pick up.
For residents of Bolesławiec, the proximity of the Lower Silesian Wilderness is a major advantage. It is worth heading, for example, to the areas around Osiecznica, Parowa or Trzebień and seeing what the forest is hiding this time. With a little luck, the basket may soon start to fill up.
Remember safety
When mushroom picking, however, it is important not to forget the basic safety rules. Once deep in the forest, it is easy to lose your bearings, so it is worth carrying a charged mobile phone. It is also a good idea to inform loved ones which area you are heading to.
It may also be useful to use an app or a map showing our location. If we travel to the forest by car, we should remember where we left the vehicle and park only in permitted places.
And most importantly—let us pick only those mushrooms that we know well and are certain are edible. If in doubt, it is better to leave the mushroom in the forest.
If the current trend continues, everything suggests that we are in for quite an interesting start to the September mushroom season.
