The European Day of Languages celebrations at II Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec are behind us. “This holiday was established by the Council of Europe, which wanted in this way to encourage the inhabitants of the Old Continent to learn foreign languages,” says Anna Słaboń, an English teacher. “Until now, we had celebrated the Day of Languages only in classes, during lessons. This time, we decided to prepare an assembly.”
The assembly took place on Tuesday, September 27, in the school auditorium. Everyone present had the opportunity to watch a multimedia presentation devoted to the school’s cooperation with foreign countries. There was also an artistic programme. The audience heard the song “Don't Worry, Be Happy” from Bobby McFerrin’s repertoire and the song “Alles aus Liebe” by Die Toten Hosen, popularized in Poland by the group Ich Troje. The artistic programme ended with a pantomime performance.
“The idea of the European Day of Languages is perfectly summed up by a Czech proverb: ‘Every foreign language gives you a new life; if you know only one language, you live only once,’ which is one of the slogans of the holiday,” emphasizes Mirosław Sakowski, headmaster of II LO.
