On September 1, 2026, a new stage of changes in healthcare in our region began. The hospitals in Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec were merged into a single consolidated entity. The merger took place during the night of August 31 to September 1.
Patients of the hospitals in Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec became patients of a single consolidated hospital. Kamil Barczyk became director of the merged hospitals. The integration aims, among other things, to improve access to doctors, develop medical care and carry out further investments.
However, the consolidation may not end there.
Bogatynia May Become the Third Hospital
As reported by bogatynia.info.pl, talks are under way about incorporating the hospital in Bogatynia into the Bolesławiec–Zgorzelec consolidated entity. The facility is in a very difficult financial situation, and its debt has exceeded PLN 30 million.
According to Bogatynia Mayor Wojciech Dobrołowicz, this is the only way to save the hospital in Bogatynia: “Either consolidation or liquidation,” the mayor said on Radio Wrocław.
For Bogatynia, consolidation is primarily intended to maintain the hospital and ensure its further development. Plans include preserving the most important services and expanding the range of specialist care.
Decision on September 7
The final decision will rest with Bogatynia’s councillors. On September 7, they are to decide whether the hospital will begin the process of merging with the large entity that already includes the medical facilities in Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec.
If the decision is positive, an even larger medical structure will be created, covering three cities and a significant part of the region.
