In autumn 2018, together with the opening of the Bolesławiec bypass connecting the Solidarności roundabout with the roundabout at Jeleniogórska Street, a viaduct over the bypass was also opened for use. It is located between Bolesławiec and Łaziska. It is part of the road infrastructure and could provide an additional connection between the city and the Bolesławiec commune area (another Bolesławiec–Łaziska road).
For now, however, the viaduct remains something of a forgotten viaduct. It stands in a field, and instead of regular car traffic, it is mainly visited by young people. Bottles and other rubbish have been left at the site, while the structure itself is also a place for meetings and graffiti painting.
An asphalt viaduct with dirt-road approaches
The problem is that there is currently no regular asphalt road leading to the viaduct. The viaduct itself is asphalted and appears ready for use. On the Bolesławiec side, in the forest area near Piastów Street, new housing estates are being developed, but access toward the viaduct is via a dirt road that is in poor condition (we do not recommend using it with vehicles other than off-road vehicles). A dirt road also leads to it from the Łaziska side. That one is in better condition.
This raises the question: will the viaduct stand in the field for years to come, serving mainly as a “decoration” or meeting place, or will it one day actually be used for its intended purpose?
Perhaps an agreement between the City of Bolesławiec and the Bolesławiec Commune would be the solution. Each local government could pave an asphalt road to the viaduct from its own side. This would create another connection between Bolesławiec and Łaziska, while also making much better use of the infrastructure that already exists.

Should the city reach an agreement with the commune?
Such a solution could matter not only to Łaziska residents. Residential development is expanding in this area on the city side, and an additional road connection could facilitate travel between the two parts in the future.
The question therefore remains: could the two local governments reach an agreement and jointly “open” the viaduct, which has existed since 2018 but in practice still remains in the middle of the fields?
We asked both the City of Bolesławiec and the Bolesławiec Commune whether development of the roads leading to the viaduct was planned and whether the local governments had considered jointly carrying out such a connection. We publish the response from the City of Bolesławiec below. We are still waiting for a response from the Bolesławiec Commune.
Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec City Office:
Good morning,
the viaduct is located outside the administrative boundaries of the City of Bolesławiec, and the entire bypass (DW 297) is managed by the Lower Silesian Roads and Railways Service in Wrocław (DSDiK).
Access roads to the viaduct run through the territory of the Bolesławiec Commune (the rural commune) and State Forests land. The City of Bolesławiec does not own these plots and, under the law, cannot carry out road investments outside its administrative area. The City of Bolesławiec is open to dialogue and cooperation with neighboring local governments and road managers regarding the development of a coherent transport network and pedestrian and cycling routes in the region. Any surfacing of the access roads to the viaduct nevertheless requires arrangements and investment decisions among the relevant manager of the provincial road (DSDiK), the Bolesławiec Commune and the Forest District.
