Ewa Wachowicz visited Bolesławiec during the Ceramic Festival. The well-known restaurateur, cookbook author and host of the “Ewa cooks” programme appeared, among other places, at an exhibition in the Museum of Ceramics. In a conversation with us, she admitted that Bolesławiec products have held an important place for several years in her Zalipianki restaurant in central Kraków.
– I have been collecting ceramics from Bolesławiec for several years. When it comes to the tableware at Zalipianki, we started with large plates and dessert plates. Later, other dishes appeared, including espresso cups, which we created together with Zakłady Ceramiczne z Bolesławca – said Ewa Wachowicz.
As she explained, replacing all the tableware was carried out gradually. Both the costs and the need to prepare dishes suited to the restaurant’s needs were important factors.
– We managed to do it after a few years, because it required time and involved costs. Not everything I needed was immediately available. We worked on some of the elements. That is how, for example, the espresso cup came about—it is one of my favourites—as well as the cappuccino cup – the restaurateur said.
Today, guests at Zalipianki can already use almost a complete set of tableware from Bolesławiec.
– I practically already have a full set of ceramics from Bolesławiec. From breakfast, through lunch and dinner, all the way to delicious coffee or tea—everything in the restaurant can be served on Bolesławiec ceramics – Ewa Wachowicz emphasised.
Mugs decorated with a blueberry motif chosen by her were also made especially for her restaurant. The dishes bear Ewa Wachowicz’s name and surname, as well as the name Zalipianki. Customers will be able to buy them, among other options, in a set with teas prepared for the restaurant.
– I am very happy that I have my own mug. It will be possible to buy it as a souvenir, for example with our rose tea. I have several branded teas, including orange and vanilla rooibos, as well as black rose tea – she said.
Ewa Wachowicz also plans to order branded tea cups. Bolesławiec accents can be found not only inside the Kraków premises. Large ceramic planters made to special order have been placed in front of the restaurant.
– Designing them probably took a year and a half. These are not standard products. It was also a challenge for the manufacturers to make something like this for me. I wanted to have a distinctive sign in front of the restaurant, with my logo and name, so that it would be clear that this is a Polish place, with Polish cuisine and Polish ceramics from Bolesławiec – she explained.
Ewa Wachowicz is a television producer, journalist, presenter and cookbook author. In 1992, she won the title of Miss Polonia, and from 1993 to 1995 she was press secretary to Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak. She has hosted the “Ewa cooks” programme since 2007.
