Tomasz Gabrysiak, the Bolesławiec county head, spoke about the planned changes during the August session of the Bolesławiec County Council. He explained that the idea of simplifying the procedures arose during the floods in 2024.

The county head pointed out that using the military for operations related to civilian threats currently requires obtaining a number of arrangements and approvals. In the event of a natural disaster, however, time is of crucial importance.

He recalled that during the recent flooding, soldiers from the Bolesławiec military unit were successfully brought into the operation overnight. In his view, however, the procedure was not adapted to a situation requiring a very rapid response.

Tomasz Gabrysiak told the councillors that he had discussed the possibility of simplifying the procedure with the unit’s commander. The preliminary solution assumes that in the event of a threat—military or non-military—some soldiers could be placed on standby following contact between the county head and the unit’s duty officer

He added that the County will still need to obtain approval for this procedure.
