A serious accident occurred on Wednesday morning, 12 August, at the 39th kilometre of the A4 motorway near the town of Dobra in Bolesławiec County. A lorry broke through the barriers and ended up outside the motorway. Despite resuscitation efforts, the lorry driver could not be saved.
A4 closed toward the border
At the 39th kilometre of the A4, both lanes toward the border are closed. There are also difficulties in the opposite direction—one lane toward Wrocław is impassable.
The police are directing drivers onto a detour through Bolesławiec. The exit has been designated near Łąka, at the 44.5th kilometre of the A4.
It is precisely the increased traffic caused by the detour that is now clearly visible on the maps.
Bolesławiec gridlocked
The traffic situation map shows significant slowdowns on DK94. Problems are occurring both west and east of Bolesławiec.
Drivers should also expect slower traffic on DK297, particularly near the northern entrance to the city. Traffic is also moving more slowly on DK363, which runs through the southern part of Bolesławiec and connects with other routes used by drivers avoiding the motorway.
Additional difficulties are visible west of the city near DK350.
Drivers should prepare for delays
The situation may change as emergency services continue their work at the accident site and depending on traffic volumes. Drivers travelling through Bolesławiec and the surrounding area should therefore allow extra time for their journey and follow the instructions of police officers directing traffic.
Particularly difficult conditions may occur on routes that have taken over traffic from the A4, which is closed toward Zgorzelec.
