Police officers from Nowogrodziec arrested a 38-year-old homeless man suspected of setting fire to commercial pavilions in Świętoszów. The incident occurred during the night of 13–14 August. The detainee threw a lit material soaked in flammable liquid into a grille in a ventilation opening. The man wanted to take revenge on the pavilion’s employees in this way because they had refused to help him.
The suspect confessed to the crime. He explained to the officers that he had intended to set fire to only one pavilion, but the flames spread to the adjacent building. The losses were estimated at PLN 68,000. The 38-year-old had previously been convicted of similar offences. He now faces up to five years in prison.
