A resident of Osiedle Kwiatowe contacted the editorial office and said that, after the reconstruction of Sokola Street, the roadway and intersection were too narrow, which in her opinion could make it difficult for vehicles to pass one another and lead to dangerous situations and traffic jams. We therefore contacted Bolesławiec City Hall with questions about the design solutions adopted.
In her response, City Hall press spokesperson Agnieszka Gergont stressed that the project had been prepared in accordance with applicable regulations:
All the design solutions adopted are standard solutions for an L-class road and comply with the parameters specified in the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 24 June 2022 on technical and construction regulations concerning public roads.
The municipal office explains that the project was developed on the basis of the local spatial development plan and applicable regulations, while the road parameters were selected appropriately for its class and design speed.
The spokesperson said:
Sokola Street is a municipal L-class road, for which the standard roadway width is 5.5 m. Due to the extensive single-family housing, the project includes a roadway 6.0 m wide. According to the design documentation, the intersections are connected by rounding arcs with radii of 6–10 m, while the minimum value of rounding arcs at road intersections is 6 m. Sokola Street is not intended to carry through traffic; it is used mainly by passenger vehicles. A roadway width of 6.0 m and the designed rounding arcs at the intersections ensure that vehicles can pass one another without collisions on straight sections of the roadway as well as at the intersections.”
We also asked whether City Hall had received similar signals from residents after the investment began. The municipal authorities’ answer is unequivocal:
City Hall had not received any signals from residents concerning the roadway width or the intersection geometry on Sokola Street.
One of the questions also concerned consultations with residents before the investment began. The municipal office explains that the owners of properties located within the road right-of-way were parties to the administrative proceedings conducted in connection with the building permit. In November 2025, a notice was published concerning the initiation of proceedings for approval of the project and issuance of a building permit.
– The parties to the proceedings had the opportunity to review the case files, obtain explanations, and submit motions and objections. No motions or objections were submitted during these administrative proceedings – Agnieszka Gergont reports.
The spokesperson adds that, after the building permit decision was issued, the parties could also appeal to the Lower Silesian Voivode.
None of the parties to the proceedings filed an appeal, and consequently the decision became final 14 days after the date on which the notice was posted on the aforementioned website. The investment was launched on the basis of the building permit decision obtained.
As a reminder, the reconstruction of Sokola Street includes the construction of nearly 878 metres of road with a 6-metre-wide roadway, a pedestrian and cycle path, new lighting and the reconstruction of underground infrastructure. The investment is worth more than PLN 5.1 million.
