On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, a fire broke out. At 5:37 p.m., the duty officer at the Operations Control Center of the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Złotoryja received a report of a standing grain fire near Wojciechów.

Units from JRG PSP Złotoryja, as well as OSP Zagrodno, OSP Olszanica, OSP Wojciechów and OSP Brochocin, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Due to the rapidly developing situation, firefighters from Legnica County also provided support—JRG 3 Chojnów and members of OSP Witków, OSP Miłkowice and OSP Krzywa.

The firefighters conducted firefighting operations, simultaneously directing several water streams at the burning grain and stubble. As the services emphasize, the initially small fire rapidly spread to additional areas, posing a real threat to many hectares of crops and nearby woodland.

Ultimately, the fire was brought under control and extinguished. The flames consumed approximately 6 hectares of stubble and grass growing along the A4 motorway road strip.

The firefighting operation also resulted in damage to a fire engine belonging to OSP Wojciechów. Fortunately, none of the rescuers involved in the operation was injured.

The firefighters also highlight the tremendous help provided by farmers, who immediately took action. Using cultivators, they cut off the standing grain from the area engulfed by the fire, significantly limiting its further spread.

The uniformed services appeal to residents and people working during the harvest:

Once again, we appeal to everyone to exercise particular caution. During the harvest period, even a small spark can lead to a large-scale fire. Let us keep agricultural machinery in good working order, avoid using open flames near fields and not throw cigarette butts from cars.
