A nighttime police patrol in Lwówek Śląski ended with an intervention involving a 16-year-old resident of Lwówek County. The officers noticed a cyclist riding through the city streets without the required lighting, posing a danger to himself and other road users.
The police stopped the teenager for a check. During the conversation, they immediately noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. A sobriety test showed that the 16-year-old had 1.4‰ of alcohol in his system.
A legal guardian was called to the scene, and the minor was placed in their care. The family and juvenile court will be informed of the incident and will decide on further consequences for the teenager.
As police officers emphasize, riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol poses a serious danger. Alcohol impairs concentration, extends reaction time and makes it difficult to properly assess the situation on the road. In this case, the risk was even greater because the bicycle did not have the required lighting, making the young cyclist much less visible to drivers.
The officers also appeal to parents and guardians to pay greater attention to how children and teenagers spend their free time, especially during the holidays. Talking about safety rules, checking where they are and raising awareness of dangers can help prevent similar situations and their serious consequences.
