Bolesławiec Police have new equipment to be used during roadside checks. On July 17, 2026, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman handed over 50 drug tests intended for testing drivers to officers.
The new tests allow police officers to quickly check whether a person driving a vehicle is under the influence of psychoactive substances. Their use is intended to increase the effectiveness of operations carried out on the roads and improve the safety of all road users.
The purchased drug tests can detect the presence of six main groups of narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances:
- cannabis (marijuana, hashish – THC);
- amphetamines;
- methamphetamines and their derivatives, including MDMA (eecstasy);
- cocaine, including crack;
- opiates, such as morphine, heroin and codeine;
- benzodiazepines, meaning sedative and sleeping medications.
The purchase of 50 drug tests was financed from funds provided by Bolesławiec City Municipality from fees for issuing permits to sell alcoholic beverages.
The handover of the new equipment is part of the municipality’s and Police’s efforts to improve road safety. The drug tests will be used during daily service, particularly when checking drivers suspected of having driven under the influence of narcotic substances.
In recent years, checks for the presence of drugs in drivers have been conducted increasingly often. The aim of such actions is to remove from road traffic people who may pose a threat to other road users.
